SalaryRSCCD has one of the highest faculty salary schedules among California’s 72 community college districts. New faculty may be placed as high as step 11 on the salary schedule based upon verified teaching/work experience. The starting salary may range from $54,298.49 - $91,836.79/year for the 10-month academic year, depending upon education and experience. Additional compensation is provided for work beyond the basic teaching contract.

BenefitsThe district will contribute up to $27,569.28 per year toward the medical/dental insurance expense for the employee and any eligible dependents, plus $1,250 per year for additional fringe benefit expenses, life insurance coverage of $50,000 or the employee’s annual salary, whichever is greater and ten days of sick leave per year. Membership in the California State Teachers’ Retirement System.

Job Description:ResponsibilitiesTeach all assigned classes which may include evening and/or off-campus assignments unless excused according to Board Policy provisions. Maintain accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and academic progress. Assist in maintaining course outline for each assigned course. Be familiar with and observe the administrative regulations as they appear in the Faculty Handbook (flex calendar obligations, course overviews, etc.). Participate in department committees and activities such as: faculty senate meetings, student activities, office hours, curriculum and instructional development, and physical science lab/science computer lab maintenance. Be willing to act as a faculty sponsor for student astronomy and/or science clubs.   Job Qualifications:RequirementsMinimum Qualifications (Applicants must meet one of the following):• Possess from an accredited institution: A master's degree in physics, astronomy, or astrophysics, OR A bachelor's in physics or astronomy AND master's in engineering, mathematics, meteorology or geophysics, OR• Possess a valid California Community College credential authorizing service in the discipline, OR• The equivalent (applicants who do not meet the above minimum qualifications must complete the Equivalencies Section in the application form and provide conclusive evidence of such)

Desirable Qualifications• Previous college-level teaching experience and/or graduate teaching assistantships for lecture, lab and/or field trip classes in Astronomy, Astrophysics, and/or Physics.• Experience with telescope operation.• Experience in directing evening telescope observation sessions with students.• Experience with public outreach program (e.g., star parties).• Experience with planetarium operation, development and management.• Experience using computers and technology in the classroom while teaching Astronomy, Astrophysics, and/or Physics.• Ability to develop astronomy and physics curricula, including laboratories and field trips.• A willingness to help develop current and future programs through curriculum, grant writing, teaching via computer or on-line instruction.• Involvement in professional Astronomy, Astrophysics, and/or Physics organizations.• A working knowledge of, and experience with, competency-based instruction and student learning outcomes
